EXCLUSIVE OFFER for the month of AUGUST
ENRICHMENT PROGRAM to the PUBLIC
What is enrichment?
Animals need opportunities to run, jump, pounce,
climb, burrow, dive, forage for food, and explore - to do
what comes naturally. Enrichment keeps animals both mentally
and physically stimulated.
Do you want to know how an animal interacts
with various scents, how they forage for food? Well if we
have peaked your interest...starting August 8 and every Tuesday,
Thursday and Sunday in August, the Greater Vancouver Zoo is
offering an enrichment program for the public to participate
in.
This program is exclusively set-up to experience:
learning about enrichment, building an enrichment item, meeting
with a Zookeeper and watching and monitoring; how various
animals interact with the enrichment item.
The program will be offered on a first-come,
first-serve basis and is limited to 15 people per group. The
cost is $45 per person and runs from 10 AM - 3 PM.
To sign up for this truly unique experience,
please contact Missy Butler in Education at 604-856-6825 x
28 or email mbutler.

CAIMAN FACILITY AT THE VIVARIUM
AND MEET OUR ORNATE NILE MONITOR!
These lizards lay 15 to 30 eggs and after an
incubation period of 4 to 6 months, the hatchlings, weighing
about 7 to 9 ounces (20 to 25 grams), slip their leathery
shells. They can live up to 15 years in the wild. Ornate Nile
Monitors eat a variety of small animals such as snails, crabs,
fish, frogs, turtles, small crocodiles, small lizards and
the eggs of birds and reptiles.
At the zoo we have one female Ornate Nile Monitor
named Monty. She was housed in the Wallaby barn for some time
and has been moved into the Vivarium, where a brand new enclosure
was built for her. She is about 5 feet in length and eats
a wide variety of meat including beef, trout, herring, chicks
and eggs (one of her favourites).
